The Positronic Pimp asked: Hi all.
What medical illnesses/conditions/infections would prevent a person from working in a pharmaceuticals manufacturing environment?
I am asking because a relative has been offered a job in a pharmaceuticals manufacturing environment, but require some kind of medical clearance before he can commence. He most likely have one or two STI from his sexual relationships. Is that likely to show up in a medical clearance / affect his chances of getting the job?

ShumelTheRenegade asked: By this I mean, what sort of drugs which are illegal at street level, could be found in professional establishments such as a pharmacy or a clinic?
This is because of some research I am trying to do about drugs for my Personal Social Development class.
Also can I have specific examples, with the drug name, and the sort of establishment it would be found in.

Most fields of science have ethical issues involved. Cloning, stem cell research, abortion, and genetic manipulation are just a few of the scientific things we can do that are often debated in our society. Are there any issues like the above in the Pharmaceutical field? Thanks!!

Roland ‘The Gunslinger’ asked:
Seriously. They’re full of crap. They know that unpatentable cures exist for things such as lowering cholesteral (who the heck would want to take a cholesteral lowering drug with loads of side affects? Cholosteral is something not to be messed up), pain, chronic problems, ect. But nope! FDA and pharmaceuticals love their business in making so much money and having the public suffer. To hell with them. Homeopathy and true holistic nutrition is the key to optimal health, along with not eating food with junk like MSG, hydrogenated oils, ect, and the USDA food pyramid is full of crap too. Those people must have low ethical morals to consciously do this. This goes out to the drug companies, certain medical organizations, the oil, dairy, sunscreen, cancer industry all trying to cover things up they know will threaten their profits. Cold greedy fools. What is your honest opinion?
Great point lindajune, however perhaps having great health will result in a less chaotic health care industry, especially among the seniors or the crisis we may have when the baby boomer children become old.
drochem-What about the drugs that and have killed people in the process. What about taking minocycline and developing Lupus, which can occur, or being mis diagnosed for a pill you don’t even need. 200,000 people a year die because of medications.

I know they can make you feel nothing at all, unconscious, or brain dead, but do any legal pharmaceuticals exist that makes one feel good?

TempestKain asked: For example, drugs like marijuana, cocaine and acid. What methods do they use to test these drugs? How long do these drugs last in the system?
What about prescription drugs like Prozac? Can they find out if you’re taking prescription drugs? How long can prescription drugs remain in your system to be capable of tested?

That_Sucks asked: Whenever my friend does drugs his body seems to process them very quickly. Granted he has only done marijuana, ecstasy, and adderall, he seem to get over the “high” very quickly. Why does it last for only a short while, and what part of his body is doing this?
Please don’t answer with comments such as don’t take drugs and that it is bad. He is only an occasional user.

helpplease asked: If anybody can help me out with this subject matter, that would be great! I know the blood brain barrier is a tight seal of endothelial cells that prevents many chemical substances and bacteria from entering the brain. (is there anything else I shoould know about it?) Also, what kind of drugs are able to penetrate the blood brain barrier? I know highly lipid soluble drugs can, but are there any others? In addition, what is the reason for these drugs to be able to cross it? What are the implications for this?
Thank you to anyone who can help. It’s GREATLY appreciated.
